High Judicial Council Participates in "Specialized Judicial Services for Gender" Conference

On Oct 10, 2016 – A delegation from High Judicial Council chaired by Chief Justice Sami Sarsour participated in a conference in Jordan on "Specialized Judicial Services for Gender".

The participated judges from Palestine, Middle East, Africa, Europe and USA discussed during the conference sessions several issues: best practices and international standards relating to gender cases, protection and empowerment for gender, rehabilitation for violence victims based on gender, deterrence mechanism for perpetrators.

During chief justice speech, Chancellor Sarsour said" It is very crucial to have an efficient, effective and transparent judicial system that facilitates access to justice within safe judicial procedures", he also added "Courts take full responsibility regarding results of lawsuits in addition that courts which represent the highest body should guarantee victims safety and prosecute perpetrators.

His Excellency said that Palestine occupies a pioneer position in the Middle East regarding access to justice for women, among the steps that have been done: signing on CEDAW Convention, establishing 11 units for juvenile and family protection in Palestinian police and designation of 20 prosecutors specialized in domestic violence.

 

It is worth noting that the conference will last for three days held in cooperation with High Judicial Council and UN WOMEN within SAWASYA Program to enhance rule of law and establishing for partnership between the two parties.
