35 Child Protection Officers Designated as "Judicial Officer"

On Sep 7, 2016 – Thirty five Child Protection Officers designated as "Judicial Officer" after delivering legal oath in the presence of Chief of Supreme Court Chief Justice Sami Sarsour, Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shaer, Attorney General Ahmad Barrak, Chairman of Palestinian Bar Association Hussein Shabaneh and UNICEF Representative Anne-Claire Dufay.

This step came as a result for implementing of the new Juvenile Law 2016 and as part of child protection and juvenile justice partnership.

In his speech Chancellor Sarsour assured the importance of child officers' roles and responsibilities from the beginning of juveniles' cross investigation till the issuing of juvenile courts decision, his Excellency added that they also have a follow up role after the execution of court's decision; Knowing that the Palestinian courts face shortage of juvenile judges.

For her part, Mrs. Duve assured the commitment from UNICEF to provide support to juvenile justice sector in order to facilitate access to justice for Palestinian children; she also expressed her appreciation to all efforts and dedication done by partners working on child protection cases.
