Chief Justice Meets Raoul Wallenberg Institute

On Feb21, 2016 – Chief Justice Sami Sarsour met with Program Officer in RWI's of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Middle East and South Africa Eman Siam in the presence of Judge Ahmad Al-Ashqar and Judge Osama Al-Dabas.

Both parties discussed the commitment of State of Palestine with MOU that has been signed in 2014 between Raoul Wallenberg Institute and Palestinian Judicial Institute on the implementation for human rights standards in judicial provisions, knowing that six Arab countries have signed the MOU: Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Iraq and Lebanon.

During the meeting, the participants mentioned the activities that have been done with coordination from Palestinian judges. One of them, Judge Ahmad Al-Ashqar who prepared a book on "Arab Judicial Jurisprudence in Implementing the International Conventions for Human Rights" which will be an educational course in Arab Judicial Institutions. Other judges, Osama Al-Dabas and Fateen Saif, Chief Prosecutor Ahmad Hanoun prepared a comparative national study on "Fair Trial Guarantees in Criminal Procedures Law".  

Chief Justice Chancellor Sarsour assured HJC interest in respecting the implementations of the international conventions that have been signed by State of Palestine as the base for the national will and upon recommendation from Palestinian leadership as well as execution for the Palestinian Basic Law.

They also agreed to continue partnership with ministry of justice, Palestinian Bar Association, Public Prosecution and NGOs.

Mrs. Siam thanked His Excellency for all efforts that have been done to support the project on local and regional levels; it is worth noting that she met with minister of justice, Al-haq and ICHR during her visit to Palestine.
