On March 23, 2016- Following Chief Justice directions Chancellor Sami Sarsour and Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sha'ar, the joint technical committee set the date for the opening of the Juvenile Court for the first time in Palestine on Sunday 3/4/2016 at the premises of Dar Al-Amal Facility in Ramallah.
The committee held its first meeting at Dar Al-Amal Facility with participation from President of Ramallah First Instance Court Judge Mousa Shakarneh, Gender and Juvenile Expert Fatima Dana, General Director of General Administration of Welfare Akram Al-Hafi and other members of the committee.
Juvenile Courts came to implementation after ratifying The Palestinian Juvenile Justice Law No. 4/2016 by H.E President of the State of Palestine Mahmud Abbas; as part of Palestinian dedication to establish a child protection responsive justice system and to build a promising generation in Palestine.
It is worth noting that Chief Justice Chancellor Sami Sarsour signed a partnership memorandum with Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shaer to enhance cooperation and integration between both parties and to guarantee access to justice for all citizens specially women and children.
During the meeting, the attendance discussed the needs of the new court regarding staff and equipment, allocating judges to work in juvenile court, providing specialized training for child protection officers, providing child friendly environment, establishing and developing protection facilities and other issues.
