National Jessup Competition "Moot Courts" in Palestine

On Jan 31, 2016 – Chief Justice Chancellor Sami Sarsour participated as chief judge in the panel of the National Jessup Competition "Moot Courts" implemented by ABA – Rule of Law Initiative and judge of International Tribunal Hon. Barkett, representative of PBA Fahid Shobaki, Consul General of Spain Juan Jose Escobar and John Darson from American Foreign Affairs John Darson.

The competition held at Grand Park Hotel with participation from Minister of Justice Ali Abu- Diak, Chairman of PBA Hussein Shabaneh and Deputy Minister of Justice Mohammed Abu-Sondos. The six universities that participate in moot courts were: Al-Quds University, Hebron University, Birzeit University, The Arab American University, Palestine Ahliya Universityand An-Najah University

Chief Justice Sarsour assured the importance of encouraging law students to participate in this competition which will elevate Palestinian representation in international courts wishing success for all teams.

For his part, Minister of Justice Abu- Diak appreciated this opportunity which helps young Palestinians to be acquainted with legal tools and procedures used in international courts.

Hebron University and An-Najah University reached the final round of the competition, and the results were as follows: first place is for Hebron University and second place is for An-Najah University. It is worth noting that the winning teams will participate in the international rounds of the competition in Washington D.C. in March 2016.
