In Cooperation with Prosecution and Ministry of Public Works and Housing High Judicial Council Inaugurates Jenin First Instance Court Expansion

On July 27, 2016- High Judicial Council inaugurated Jenin First Instance Court Expansion in cooperation with Prosecution and Ministry of Public Works and Housing and funded by European Union with attendance of high-level representatives from governmental institutions, security sector, police and donors.

The inauguration ceremony was held with participation from Chief Justice Chancellor Sami Sarsour, Attorney General Ahmen Barak, Jenin Governor Major General Ibrahim Ramadan, Under Secretary of Minister of Public Works and Housing Faeq Al-Deek, Deputy Chief of Jenin Police Colonel Mustafa Ghanam, Head of Jenin Municipality Raghib Al-Nader, Assistant of Under Secretary of Mister of Justice Samir Sharqawi, member of Palestinian Bar Assosiation and EU Representative Ricardo Rose.

In his speech, Chancellor Sarsous indicated that establishing new courthouses and expansion owned by HJC are among of the council strategic goals and came in the frame of providing suitable litigation environment appropriate for the use of litigators and judges and member of prosecution and based on international standards.

His Excellency added that this project funded by EU is an example for cooperative role between Judicial Authority and Executive Authority; the project was executed by cooperation from Ministry of Finance and Planning and Ministry of Public Works and Housing. As for internal technical level, a joint committee has been formed from all related sectors.

Chief Justice finished his speech by thanking EU for their generous fund and continuous support for HJC, thanking all donors who support the council in building courthouses especially the Canadian Government, Jenin Municipality, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Ministry of Public Works and Housing and all partners in justice sector.

Headstone unveiling, ribbon cutting and tour inside the courthouse took place during the induration ceremony.

It is worth noting that the total amount of EU fund was around 20 million euro for 2528 square meters which will provide the current and future needs for the court and public prosecution.
