High Judicial Council Participates in Meeting of Work Group of Justice Sector

On June 2, 2016 – Work group meeting was held with participation from officials in justice sector, HJC, MOJ, Dewan-Fatwa, PJI and representatives from civil society, partner institutions and donors. To discuss National Strategic Plan 2017-2022 and ways of customizing the national policy agenda with justice sector priorities.

Legal Advisor Amer Shaheen chaired the meeting at Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics representing justice sector workgroup and Ms. Dicky Methorst representing donors' workgroup.

Mr. Shaheen indicated that justice sector managed to established basic steps to accomplish achievements, he added that the new plan differ from the previous one because it focuses on citizens and their satisfaction about services. He also assured that justice sector is a pillar sector in the state; whenever justice and security are provided, all sectors will be revived. Mr. Shaheen assured commitment from HJC to provide all available resources to achieve success for programs in justice sector.

For her part, Ms. Methorst indicated that several things have been accomplished; however cooperation and coordination between justice sector and donors need more efforts.

Ms. Tahreer Hamamdeh representing prosecution delivered a presentation on justice institutions achievements from 1/6/2015 to 1/6/2016. Meanwhile, Mr. Maher Turjman SAWASYA Program delivered a presentation on monitoring and evaluation; Mrs. Mervat Ghazal talked about developing strategies and priorities of justice sector.

The meeting came up with several recommendations, customizing the national policy agenda with justice sector priorities; elevate justice sector staff capacity and reviewing legislations.
