Key Justice Institutions Meet to Discuss Strategic Plan 2017-2022

On April 26, 2016 – Key Justice Institutions met at HJC to discuss priorities of Justice Sector Strategic Plan 2017-2022.

The meeting was attended by Chief Justice Sami Sarsour, President of Constitutional Court Dr. Mohamad Al-Haj Qasim, Minister of Justice Ali Abi-Diak, Attorney General Ahmad Barak, Head of Netherlands Representative Office Peter Mollema, EUPOL COPPS Head of Mission Rodolphe Mauget, from Netherlands Representative Office First Secretary Role of Law Dicky Methorst and from OQR Dr. Firas Melhem.

Chancellor Sarsour welcomed the attendance assuring the importance of participation of president of Constitutional Court in the meeting considering the court as basic pillar in justice sector and referee between three authorities and protector for freedoms and civilians rights; he also hoped that the output meeting aiming at one target which is developing justice sector institutions. H.E emphasized the importance of integration and cooperation between key actors in justice sector in order to provide best services for citizens and to elevate public trust in judicial system.

For his part, President of Constitutional Court Dr. Mohamad Al-Haj Qasim indicated that the court is specialized on monitoring the constitutional legislations and protecting freedoms in Palestine in accordance with basic law provisions.

Minister of Justice Ali Abi-Diak assured that the Palestinian government supports independence of judiciary and works through the national strategic plan to enhance justice sector and develop public services.

Attorney General Ahmad Barak also emphasized the importance of implementing the meeting output.

Mr. Peter Mollema expressed his happiness because of positive cooperation between all partners in justice sector saying that EU is committed to provide all support to achieve justice priorities.

It is worth noting that among the priorities are:  reform legislative environment, speed up cases' adjudicate; enhance the execution of courts' decisions, improve work mechanism of public services, institutionalize work with other sectors working with justice sector, develop systems and regulations in justice sector to meet international standards.
