The opening of Jericho's First Instance court

     Under the auspices of the PM Dr. Salam Fayad , a First Instance Court was opened in Jericho on Thursday 4/9/2008. The Chief Justice /Head of the High Court Mr. Issa Abu Sharar, accompanied by the presence of David Harden –Deputy Head of the United States Agency for International Development, General Attorney Ahmad Al Mughani, Dr. Ali Al kashan – Minister of Justice, the Colonel Khaled Abu Kamel- Head of the Jericho's District, Deputy Mayer Jamal Al Rujub, a number of the HJC's members and judges and the invitees shared the prime minister this event.

 

     Dr. Fayad surveyed the government's intentions towards upgrading and developing the judicial apparatus and activating its roles through providing it with such recent appointments of a number of qualified judges and administrative employees in the courts and the HJC's departments, by making the special required financial credits available for the judicial authority. This is done so that the HJC can promote itself to a level by which it can practice the judicial works far away from any interventions in the judges' works who, then, can adjudicate in the various legal cases among the people under the authority of law and justice. This is also done so that the courts can clear the state of backlog concerning the great number of various levels of legal cases that are being filed at the courts' bureaus. Furthermore, Dr. Fayad promised with the government's continuity in supporting the Judicial Authority so that it can takes its role as an independent authority which aims at anchoring the bases of law and justice.

 

     Furthermore, the chief justice Mr. Issa Abu Shara thanked Dr. Slam Fayad and his government for their approval of initiating and supporting the idea of constructing the typical court in this location of Jericho which would facilitate the citizens' access to the court and provide the judges and court with the required protection and security. Besides, the Chief Justice praised the USAID's efforts and the main partners especially the UNDP and the EU states for their efforts in supporting and developing the JA's performance and making the technical requisites available, by referring to a Canadian promise of constructing new headquarters of courts in Ramallah, Hebron and Tulkarem.

 

   At the end of such event, Dr. Fayad accompanied by the Chief Justice and the invitees took a tour through the court's building and they surveyed its equipment.
