Overview of Palestinian Courts

The history of the Palestinian Judiciary is marked by years of political instability which ultimately resulted in the loss of the Palestinian people’s faith in their justice system. However, in the wake of the Justice Sector Strategy set forth by the Palestinian National Authority, new goals have been set and the government is striving for a better judiciary, one that secures public confidence and allows for justice to be carried out swiftly and efficiently.

Most importantly, the Palestinian National Authority hopes to achieve a judiciary that secures justice for all parts of society, respects human rights, and guarantees the fundamental freedoms of its citizens, while remaining completely transparent, fair and independent.  With the help of international organizations, judges and courthouse staff through out the West Bank, the Palestinian National Authority hopes to fully realize its goals for an improved judiciary by 2010.
