Final Workshop in Criminal Proceedings Management

22/7/2009

Dr. Ali Abu Hujeileh Head of Jordanian Appeal Court reaffirmed that Jordanian King Abdullah The Second had directed Jordanian Judicial Authority officials to provide all required help to the Palestinian Judicial Authority. Some of this help included groups of Palestinian Judges coming every year to enroll in training courses at the Jordanian Judicial Institute.
Judge Abu Hijleh said, “We as Jordanian judges have been coming for some time now to the Palestinian Judicial Institute to give lectures to the new Conciliation Court judges during their training programs and to participate in training courses provided to judges from all Conciliation and First Instance Courts in the West Bank.”
Abu Hijleh’s words came during the final workshop  “Criminal Proceedings Management ” which the Judicial Training Department held at the Supreme Judicial Council in Al-Bireh in cooperation with Netham project which is funded by the American Agency for International Development (USAID).
Twenty-six judges from all Palestinian Conciliation and First Instance courts attended the workshop, which is the final stage after three stages stretching from March until July 2009. With this workshop the training program would have covered all Palestinian judges in the West Bank.
Judge Raed Abed Al-Hamid Head of the Judicial Training Department said, “We’re trying in this program and through the criminal laws to find a unified means to conduct criminal proceedings in the Palestinian courts.”
He explained that as a result of this workshop, a committee to study the vulnerabilities in court procedures would be formed. Added to this, recommendations which are the outcome of the program would be drafted to decide upon a directive that would unify criminal proceedings.
Abu Hijleh also added that he noticed the benefit reaped by the participants in this workshop through the participation of other colleagues, the judges and those who participated in previous workshops, and that they discussed issues and cooperated with the training in a positive way which clearly demonstrates that they were concerned with unifying criminal proceedings in their courts.
