During a press conference held at the Jenin Courthouse on Wednesday September 25, 2008 Honorable Justice Issa Abu Sharar, Head of the High Court, described several improvements that have taken place in the Palestinian Judiciary during the past years. Such developments have reinforced the Palestinian public’s trust in the Judiciary, which has resulted in a substantial rise in the number of cases filed which increased 70% from 2007-2008. Palestinians are increasingly resorting to the Judiciary directly instead of using security bodies or government offices.

The press conference occurred during a tour for a group of journalists and media representatives. The tour, which was organized by the Media and Public Relations Department at the HJC in cooperation with Netham Project, aimed to introduce the media and journalists to the judicial facilities and encourage them to increase media coverage of judicial affairs.
