Judges visit correctional and detention centers to assure compliance with the law

6/11/2008

In accordance with the directive issued by the Chief Justice Issa Abu Sharar issued in March 2007, three judges of First Instance courts visited their respective correction and rehabilitation centers in their governorates.

Judge Waheed Al E'meleh, head of the Hebron court, visited the Athaheria Correction Center in October. Judge Al E’meleh found that all the sentenced and arrested prisoners in the center were imprisoned in accordance with the law.  In spite of the large number of prisoners per cell, inmates praised the services provided including the food and good treatment. However, they complained that they were not transferred on time to their court appearances. Judge Al E’meleh also surveyed police detention centers, intelligence, and security protective services. All detainees in the detention centers and protective services were found to have been arrested in accordance with the military judiciary.

Also in October the head of the Jenin First Instance court visited the Jenin correctional center and rehabilitation. He found that all prisoners were detained according to the law.
