On Feb 12, 2017 – Chief Justice Chancellor Emad Saleem Sa’ad participated at the awards ceremony of the National Jessup Competition "Moot Courts" implemented by ABA – Rule of Law Initiative.
The competition was held at Grand Park Hotel with participation from Minister of Justice Ali Abu- Diak, Chairman of PBA Hussein Shabaneh, US Consul Donald Blome, and Judge Amjad Lobadieh, judges from regular courts, Palestinian lawyers, and law students from seven Palestinian universities. Chief Justice assured the importance of encouraging law students to participate in this competition which will elevate Palestinian representation in international courts wishing success for all teams; H.E added "We consider Palestinian law students as pillars for building future of Palestine and hope for prevailing trust and respect for judiciary and rule of law".
Birzeit University and An-Najah University reached the final round of the competition, and the results were as the following: first place is for An-Najah University and second place is for Birzeit University; the winning teams will participate in the international rounds of the competition in Washington D.C.
It is worth noting that Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was founded in 1959 and considered the largest moot court in the world, it is a simulation of fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice. Over 550 universities from over 80 countries participate in Jessup where students submit written memorials and present oral pleadings.
