On March 30, 2017- Chief Justice Chancellor Emad Saleem Sa’ad met with Chief of Palestinian Civil Police Major General Hazim Attallah and Colonel Iyad Shtieh in the presence of Judge Ahmad Al-Mughanni and Judge Izzat Al-Ramini.
During the meeting, the participants discussed issues of common concern and ways to enhance cooperation between them on the bases of partnership between judiciary and police in implementing for justice system. The judicial police have a significant role in executing verdicts, securing courthouses and bringing detainees in addition to other joint tasks both parties are trying to develop. In this context, H.E asked to provide First Instance Court with more additional police officers especially during criminal court sessions due to jeopardy in some cases.
The attendance also discussed the necessity for police officers to be committed to notifications that have been sent to them to witness before courts and the importance of the judicial munity for judges regarding traffic violation offences in accordance to law.
For his part, Chancellor Sa’ad praised the role of police in keeping security and efforts to enhance and rehabilitate and training for police officers as well as for their positive attitude and professionalism in implementing their duties.
Major General Hazim Attallah appreciated all efforts that have been done by Palestinian Judiciary regarding dealing with backlog cases and caseload notwithstanding the obstacles forced by Israeli occupation. Mr. Attallah added that all parties have the same goal in achieving national agenda and providing security for Palestinian citizens; nevertheless, the importance of confronting who violates law orders.
At the end of meeting, they agreed to establish joint committee to coordinate and to follow up all procedures between both parties and to guarantee best practices at maximum speed.
